I read Geoff Riley’s excellent letter in last week’s press with great interest and he raises some very valid concerns about the functioning of local politics in general and in particular to Uttlesford and the forthcoming elections.
The aims of R4U are to form a new administration in UDC which listens to residents and cares for them; as opposed to following the agendas of National Political Parties. To achieve this we have to get a group of at least 20 people to stand and win the voters’ confidence. Now obviously there is no group of 20 people who think exactly the same way on every possible issue affecting our lovely district.
We do need a framework of policies which we have developed co-operatively with Residents and have also consulted innovatively with the public. HOWEVER, I can categorically assure the voters of Uttlesford that we will never compel any councillor to follow a party whip and this differentiates us from the political norm. Then with an overall majority after 8th May, I will reach out to ALL other parties to include them in the administration with the intention of forming a government of all the talents. Whatever your position on Westminster politics this should not stop you from doing your best for the District locally and R4U can really bring this to Uttlesford.
