Election Day started before 6AM for me as I wanted to be at the polling stations in my ward by 7. It was great to see so many faces I had canvassed turn up to vote. After a long last day out in the wards telling at polling stations and knocking up R4U voters, a number of us then went to the count at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre.
The first order of the day was to verify the total number of votes cast per ward. The District ballots were then set aside and the general election votes counted. As expected Sir Alan Haselhurst was returned as MP with a significant majority just before 5:30 AM. I then got 3 hours sleep and was up preparing for the District count.
Our team will then return to the Lord Butler leisure centre for the count of the District votes. This will start just after midday and is expected run until mid-evening on Friday night. We intend to post live updates via our Twitter feed and will provide live updates to our district results page provided that the Leisure Centre is working ok. It was a bit erratic last night.
Thank you for all the support. We expect there will be some very close outcomes in some wards. And our fingers are crossed for some district gains!
