Here is the statement I made on Saturday before the vote of thanks that the Saffron Walden Town Council gave to our outgoing mayor, Heather Asker:
It gives me great pleasure to propose the vote of thanks for our retiring mayor, Councillor Heather Asker.
During her time in office, Heather has worked tirelessly for the town of Saffron Walden and for its people. She has achieved this whilst continuing with her full-time work and family commitments. As a former mayor, I appreciate just how hard this can be. Heather has managed the task magnificently.
The evidence for the work involved may be seen from the number of mayoral engagements which she carried out; 108 official engagements over the year. Added to this, this, she attended nearly fifty meetings of the town council, which included, of course, chairing the meetings of full council, not always an easy task!
Madam Mayor, you have set the standards by which other mayors may be judged. I am delighted to be able to propose a Vote of Thanks in your honour!
Cllr Richard Freeman (R4U)
