R4U delighted with more awards for Saffron Walden Town Council services

Saffron Walden Town Council, under R4U stewardship, has won a top gold award and two merits for the maintenance and upkeep of its play areas from the Essex Playing Fields Association. These are in addition to another recent award for second best council in Essex, and the council’s Tourist Information Centre winning its category top spot at the Essex Business Awards.

R4U’s Cllr Paul Gadd, who sits on the Saffron Walden Town Council Playground Working Group, said “Once again we are delighted to be delivering award-winning council services for residents, this time for our children’s play areas. These facilities are an important part of community building for families, where parents can meet up and kids can actively play. This time we have been recognised by the Essex Playing Fields Association in their 2017 awards for Best Kept Playing Fields. We won the top gold award for the maintenance and upkeep of our play facilities at Golden Acre; and certificates of merit for those at Crabtrees and on The Common. The credit for these awards should go to our outstanding town council operations team for all the hard work they do in delivering the best services we can and making our town a great place to live, work and visit. I’d also like to congratulate the Cricket Club for winning the top gold award in their category too. A super job all round for Saffron Walden!”

Cllr Gadd added “This recognition is in addition to the awards we recently won for second best council in Essex, and the our Tourist Information Centre winning its category top spot at the Essex Business Awards. Winning a string of independent awards shows that our town is in great hands under R4U stewardship. And we have more exciting news. We expect to soon be breaking ground on a new multi-function path along the bottom of The Common. It will connect Chaters Hill, the play area, and Common Hill, allowing pedestrians, pushchairs, bikes and mobility scooters to access the town without having to wade through the mud that is there now or jostle with traffic on East Street. We can’t wait to get started.”

R4U leads Uttlesford District Council (UDC). In its first election in 2015 it became the second party at UDC. In May 2019, it gained majority control of the authority by inflicting the biggest loss of seats on any Conservative controlled council in the UK. In May 2023, R4U retained control of UDC.

R4U also leads Saffron Walden Town Council, where under its stewardship the council since 2015 it has rebuilt finances, invested in community assets, and won multiple awards, including the best run council in Essex.
