Residents for Uttlesford (R4U) is delighted that Essex Highways is planning to start emergency repairs to the High St pavement in Saffron Walden from the week beginning 8 June.
Paul Gadd (R4U)
R4U’s Paul Gadd, Essex County Councillor for the Saffron Walden division, said “I’ve been pressing Essex Highways for months now to sort out the High Street pavements. There are more and more loose paving slabs, and they are presenting an increasing danger to residents. Essex should be doing a short term emergency fix in the next couple of weeks to make the trip hazards safe for the immediate future.”
Cllr Gadd, who is also Leader of Saffron Walden Town Council, continued “While we’re delighted that they’ve started on the High Street, the Town Council and I will then be agreeing with them a longer term strategy. It’s clearly not easy, with all the established tree roots, but we need to come up with a more permanent solution that will accommodate the trees but also stop the current situation of slabs becoming trip hazards almost as soon as they are replaced.”
