Residents for Uttlesford (R4U) is delighted at the opening of the new skate-park in Thaxted which its administration at UDC funded and is urging other sports clubs and parish councils to apply for similar funding before the end of June deadline.
Mike Tayler & Martin Foley (R4U)
R4U’s Cllr Martin Foley, local district councillor, said “We’re delighted at Thaxted’s superb new skate-park, as are the local boarders and BMXers. Fellow ward councillor Mike Tayler and I championed the £35,000 grant from UDC that funded this important community asset for residents. It has been a pleasure to welcome it open, as well as show our commitment to the wonderful team at Thaxted Youth Club.”
Alex Armstrong (R4U)
R4U’s Cllr Alex Armstrong, who is UDC Portfolio Holder for Sport, Leisure and the Arts, added “It is disappointing that previously UDC oversaw vast housing development but with little investment in local sports facilities. This has led to many being over-subscribed. Since being elected to lead the council, at R4U we’ve worked hard to turn that around. This includes our recent investment in youth football and here in the Thaxted skate-park – as well as forcing developers to deliver the sports facilities they promised. To support local clubs and parish councils we’ve created a £450k sports grant fund for projects like this and they should contact me if they have new projects to expand local sports anywhere in Uttlesford. The fund is made possible using income from our highly successful commercial property portfolio, and grant applications for this year close on 30th June. Those interested can find more details and apply on UDC’s website.”
